RTI 2015 - Ideal Sigma 38 Conditions.

Published 10:02 on 29 Jun 2015

A good breeze with gust of up to 18 knots and sunshine - perfect summer sailing for the 28 fleet strong Sigma 38s. 9 Sigma 38s finished in the top 100 boats and 12 completed the 50 miles circumnavigation in less than 8 hours. With Alacrity lead the race until Ryde Sands when Mefisto were able to capitalised on their brief grounding to take the lead and the bullet in IRC Division 2D. In the Sigma 38 One Design Class With Alacrity won beating Persephone by just 4 seconds. Pavlova came in third, with Machismo fourth. Closely fought battles were enjoyed throughout the fleet, Sam, Marta and Light crossed the line in that order with just over a minute between them.

As is customary the fleet made the most of being all together to enjoy 3 fantastic windward leeward races on Sunday run by the the Royal London Yacht Club. Many of the competitors deem this to be one of the best days racing of the year. The club efficiently set 3 races, allowed boats to moor on the Trinity Landing Pontoon with the likes of Eleonora, and have everyone back at their beautiful club for prize giving and a magnificent spread of tea and cakes. This year saw 3 different winners in each race but the Mary Blaxter Salver Trophy awarded by the RLYC went to Persephone with - first and two seconds.
