RORC - Cowes to Dinard/St. Malo

Published 00:00 on 10 Jul 2015

Seven Sigma 38s competed in the RORC race to St. Malo, taking advantage of gaining the most Fastnet qualifying miles in one race. They made up part of the largest RORC fleet for two years. With light to moderate winds, initially from the south east, then switching round to the west for the second half of the race and building to over 20 knots, the 2015 Cowes - Dinard/St Malo race was one of the fastest ever. Spinnakers went up just off the Green at Cowes and came down at the finish, with fine reaching on both gybes, keeping the boat speeds right up so that the leading boats made all the tidal gates.

Persephone and Sam of Hamble battled it out for Sigma 38 honours, swopping the lead several times, with Persephone slipping through in the early hours of Saturday morning, finishing in under 22 hours, 10 minutes in front of Sam.Paracelsus, who are really taking to offshore races was third. After over twenty-two hours racing it's amazing that boats finished so close to one another. Paracelsus beat Rho by just over a minute. Well done to all - it must be great to know you have qualified for the mighty Fastnet
