Meanwhile on the Western Solent......!

While all the drama of the America's Cup World Series was being played out on the Eastern Solent a slightly lower key, but for the 12 Sigma 38 racing in the Western Solent, an equally exciting and rewarding regatta produced its own thrills and spills. Following Friday's champagne reception Saturday saw champagne conditions for two races. A number of boats were caught out by the complex and challenging tidal effect. With Alacrity read it best and pulled out two wins. In true close one design Sigma 38 style only two points separated the next four boats.

Sunday couldn't have been more different with gusts of up to 40 knots and driving rain. Although there was no serious damage a number of the fleet were forced to retire through gear failure. Persephone put a stop to With Alacrity's wining streak to win the final race. With Alacrity did just enough, coming in fourth, and hence, to win the regatta. Persephone took second overall, with Pandanova, third! Special recognition is deserved for two of Pandanova's crew - Atlanta and Alexander, 9 and 8 years old.

The overwhelming view of the fleet is that it's a treat to race somewhere different, particularly with the challenging tidal situation and to be able to take advantage of the historic Yarmouth Harbour with its lively pub scene.

Some fabulous photos capturing the action - https://www.royalsolent.org/photo_gallery/?album=T...
