9 Sigma 38s entered, making up almost half of Class 5 and the weather didn't disappoint. Warm and sunny with a gentle beat down down to the forts in 10 knots and then kite up towards Bembridge Ledge and to the finish at Poole. Massive Spring Tide with over 20 boats made the start frantic. Pandanova won the start but with a speedy hoist and perfect gibes With Alacrity overtook on the downwind leg. Towards the finish the wind died, with the fleet closing fast WA covered and the tide carried them first over the finish. Panda drifted in second with Paracelus third, then only 10 seconds later, Vitesse. With Alacrity also finished third in class.

The race back on Sunday was a much speedier affair, a solid beat in 17-22 knots dropping to 12-14 knots once in the Solent. WA led from the start with a gaggle of Sigma 38s chasing and swopping positions. In the end Vitesse with a number 2 genoa finished second, with Pandanova third. WA once again finished third in class. Marta sailing two up finished fourth and third in the double handed results. So once again With Alacrity retain the largest Sigma 38 trophy.

Sadly two Sigma 38s, Galliver and Persephone, suffered significant damage on a start line collusion on Saturday. Fortunately no-one was hurt but they were unable to continue.
