Day 8, as with Day 6, of the Garmin Hamble Winter Series was cancelled due to strong wind forecasts. Ironically for the races that have gone ahead the wind, without exception, has been very light and have tested crews' tactical knowledge and composure. Nine out of twelve races were completed, besides the two windy Sundays one was lost to absolutely no wind. Persephone came first overall, dominating the Sigma 38 fleet by chalking up six firsts! With Alacrity was second overall, with Light third. Incredibly the two Portsmouth based boat, Paracelsus and Marta, finished on equal points. In IRC 3 the light winds of this series were never going to favour the more robust Sigma 38s competing with the lighter, more modern J Boats but, remarkably, Persephone finished third overall. All in all a very pleasant series to round off the sailing year. The next sailing on the Sigma 38 calendar is the Warsash Spring Championships but before that we look forward to celebrating all things Sigma 38 at the Annual Party, 30th January 2016.
